Peekaboo

Micron Fine liner with digital editing

A monstorous creation born from the idea of playing “Peekaboo” with children. How our faces can become distorted and creature-eque but with a underlying humour.

A Little Bit About The Artist

A Statement From The Artist

A great fascination of mine has been the human desire to find out who we are in this vast universe and matter. What is a soul? How did we come to be? What is our purpose? These are the questions many masters is anatomy art asked before us, and we still are doing our best to live with these, unknown. My practice works alongside such questions and they give me a profound appreciation for the body I reside in. The complexities and beauty of its structure work tirelessly and precisely to keep me alive, and I think that’s rather beautiful in all its boney, squishy, and bloody self. Every outside parts is connected to every inside part, all the way down to microscopic level. I want to understand as much as I can of our spiritual, mental, physical, ethereal being. Our connectedness to the nature that grounds us, the spirit that brings us together, and the skin that binds us. We can be anything and are everything at the same time. The body is truly amazing and we should listen to it more.

Whats your favourite monster and why?

The xenomorph from Alien without question. It is planted inside you from crawling facehuggers, burst from your chest exploding you from the inside, grows into a 8ft tall all camoflaged black creature with acid for blood, has two mouths! one of which can be extractedd out to take chunks out of you. Lets not get into the fact it keeps you alive to further populate all while being the most difficult thing to kill and survives mostly because of human greed. The artistry alone for its design is insane.

Do you like scary movies? And if so which ones?

Scary movies are my first pick everytime. Scream is my favourite scary movie (I promise not a joke on the tag line). Trick r treat is a close second. I love a scary movie that pokes a little fun at what the genre is and shakes it up a little. Although recently I watched Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which its hard to really scare me now after years of scary movies, but this one actually made me scream.

What’s the biggest influence on your work?

The biggest influence on my practice are historical anatomy illustrations and prints. Specifically that of ‘De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem’ by Andreas Vesallius. The traditional cross-hatching styles in fine-line are my favoured way of drawing. Another close influence would be myself. My interest in anatomy, the body and self really comes from my own curiosities into what makes me work.
